WEDDING SESSION
“When should we get married?”
(The guidelines offered on this site apply more towards sunny southern California.)
Best times to get married, 1st is spring, 2nd is fall & last is winter.
Usually, summer temperatures exceed 100°. Taking pictures outside wile wearing a tux for the groom and for the bride a thick heavy dress is going to be uncomfortable. The pictures won’t come out great and no amount of post-picture editing will fix that. Not too many worries if the pictures are to be taken inside a venue with air conditioning.
During spring, you have to realize there will be chances of rain. Pick an outside location, and as a backup, a covered location.
For the fall, might still be a bit warm, but with cooling heading into the night. Winter, be aware of the time change that will significantly reduce shooting time during the day.
“When should we take the pictures, before or after the ceremony?”
If the pictures are prior to the ceremony:
positives:
● makeup is nice and fresh
● more time for pictures of bride & groom
● cooler earlier in the day
● possibility of shooting in multiple locations.
● guest wait less between ceremony & reception
drawbacks:
◊ wake up earlier for hair & makeup
◊ see each other prior to the ceremony
◊ makeup might need to be freshened up
◊ bit tired when the ceremony starts.
If the pictures are after the ceremony:
positives:
● start hair & makeup bit later
● more time for getting ready pictures
● get to see each other in the ceremony
drawbacks:
◊ generally less time to shoot
◊ afternoon is hotter, uncomfortable during shooting
◊ makeup can be smudged do to hugs and congratulations
◊ wedding dress can get marks do to hugs and congratulations
◊ guest wait longer between ceremony & reception
Our experience shows it’s best taking pictures prior to the ceremony, however we work with either arrangement.
